Wat Phou is another world heritage, and located some kilometers south of Pakse. From the style it is like what you find in Angkor, but it is supposed to be built before. The hindu elements are clearly shown in the setup, and later turned to buddism. The temple it self goes up a mountain, and gives you an amazing view on the Mekong river flatlands. In the former times there was also a big city directly connected to the temple, but nowadays there is not this much left to see there. It was surrounded by a moat of more than a kilometer on each side, and located near the river banks.
